Cinco de Mayo!!

Quote of the Day: "Most modern calendars mar the sweet simplicity of our lives by reminding us that each day that passes is the anniversary of some perfectly uninteresting event." ~Oscar Wilde

Song of the Day: 'Killing Time' Joss Stone

State of Mind: alright

Date: duh!

I know nothing of this holiday other then you drink beer. What more do you need to know?

And today is 05/05/05! Does that make it extra special?
If anyone knows any Mexicans, could you ask please? Thanks.

I know a lot of Mexicans, but I don't think any of them would have an answer for you...

We could always ask Jose. I know, I know... he's not Mexican. But I'm wagering he's still got a better tan than I do.

I think it has to do with the celebration of a Mexican Victory in a war they eventually lost. But hey you GET TO DRINK BEER!!

May 5, 1862: 4,000 Mexican soldiers smashed the French and traitor Mexican army of 8,000 at Puebla, Mexico, 100 miles east of Mexico City.
The French Army had not been defeated in 50 years, and it invaded Mexico with the finest modern equipment and with a newly reconstituted Foreign Legion. But an army half their size beat them. In a way, that makes the Mexicans like Ewoks.

It's a good thing you put in a link there, and didn't try to make us think you knew all that off the top of your head. We're smarter than that, you know.

Like I said, Google knows everything.

The Mexican fighters are like ewoks because they defeated the French army despite not having all the state of the art weapons. It was like the Battle of Endor, with big funny hats.

Now I am picturing Ewoks running around with sombreros. Thanks.

'undelay! undelay! ¡arriba! aiiieeee!'

BTW, I have no idea if any of that is even spanish.

Holy shit is that funny.

What's funnier is that hat originally came from a picture of Mr. T.

Cinqo de Mayo celebrates the Mexican victory at the Battle of Puebla in 1862. A 6500 strong French expeditionary force was sent to Mexico to force them to pay their debt to France. General Ignacio Zaragoza led a 4500 man army against them and, with the help of a cattle stampede during the battle, routed them.

A couple of weeks later, the French Emporer sent 30000 troops and they beat the Mexican army like, well like they owed them money. Which they of course did.

Americans celebrate Cinqo de Mayo because it gives us another excuse to drink and defile ourselves.

A stampede? Really? It is just like the Battle of Endor!
